ATWT: Noah and Luke Kiss
We saw it for the first time today: daytime television’s first male same sex kiss. The love triangle between Luke, Noah, and Maddie continues with a dynamic event. Luke is helping Noah prepare for lunch with his father. He helps him with his tie and the close encounter turns into a big time smooch. Noah is aware of Luke’s sexuality, but is still conflicted about his own. Its seems he is struggling to understand his feelings for Luke and reconcile them with his upbringing and the expectations placed on him by his father. Poor Maddie seems caught in the middle, but I shouldn’t say “poor” Maddie, because she doesn’t seem very emotionally invested to me. It’s not even realistic, to me, that she would stay in Oakdale for him. She doesn’t feel for him what she does for Casey, anyway. I’m happy for Luke, in a way, though I’m sure he will have an uphill battle striving for a relationship with someone who is “confused.”
I think it’s a wonderful thing that daytime drama has taken this step.
Oh, yeah, and Carly goes under some quicksand in the rescue of J.J.

It’s true that this was a milestone in daytime television, but this actually wasn’t the first same-sex kiss on daytime tv. That honor goes to All My Children’s Eden Riegel (ex-Bianca Montgomery) and Olga Sosnovska (ex-Lena Kundera) back in 2003. This is, however, to my knowledge the first male same-sex kiss on daytime, and it was more risque than Riegel and Sosnovska’s original, though still chaste by soap opera standards.
A step in the right direction nonetheless.
