Update on the Writer’s Strike

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

According to Variety, some soap writers may cross the line and continue writing for their soaps. There are also some soap writers who refuse to cross the line. I guess we will see in the up coming weeks if our soaps will continue to air if the writer’s strike is still going on. Also if the soaps decide to use scab writers, we will have to see how this will effect up coming storylines. These next few months could get very interesting.

I Wanna Be A Soap Star Winner Joins the Cast of The Bold & the Beautiful

Monday, November 12th, 2007

Mykel Shannon Jenkins, the first winner of Soapnet’s reality show I Wanna Be Soap Star will be joining the cast of The Bold & the Beautiful. Jenkins will play the role of detective Charlie Baker, son of police detective Lt. Baker. After winning Soap Star in 2005, Jenkins had a recurring role on General Hospital. Since then, Jenkins has had guest roles on CSI and Ugly Betty. Jenkins role should bring some much needed diversity to The Bold & the Beautiful. MykelShannonP.jpg

Will the Writer’s Strike Effect the Soap Operas?

Friday, November 9th, 2007

How will writer’s strike effect our favorite daytime dramas. Soap operas usually tape 4 to 6 weeks in advance, so it will be at least a month before soaps will be effected. If the writer’s strike is still going on after that time period, it may mean that we will not be seeing our soap operas for awhile. With soap opera ratings already being pretty low, they cannot afford to be off the air for too long. We saw the effects that the O.J. Simpson case had on soap operas had back in the 90s. Back then, with the soap operas being off the air for months, viewers found other things to do with their time, and quite a few of them did not return to viewing their soaps when they return from hiatus. There is a good chance that could happen again with this writer’s strike. Here is hoping that the writers and the studios are able to work out their differences.

Watch CBS Soaps Online

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

For those of you who are unable to catch your favorite CBS soap operas doing the day due to work, school, or other activities, now there are multiple ways to catch a missed episodes. There always the VCR or TIVO, but now you can also catch The Young & the Restless, As the World Turns, and Guiding Light with same day episodes on CBS.com. They don’t have The Bold & the Beautiful on there yet. Usually you can watch same day episodes around 6 p.m. or 7 p.m. eastern standard time. Some days the site works great, but at other times the site does a lot of buffing and sometimes it skips over certain parts of the show. Hopefully, in the future CBS.com will work on this problem. You can also catch episodes on MSN.com, though they may be a day later. They also don’t carry The Bold & the Beautiful, but there is always Youtube to catch good clips of that soap.

Catch Enrique Iglesias on The Young & the Restless

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

This week Latin hunk Enrique Iglesias will be performing on the soap opera, The Young & the Restless. Iglesias will be performing at Neil Winter’s nightclub Indigo. Iglesias will sing his new song “Somebody’s Me” from his new CD, Insomniac. Also Tatyana Ali will be returning to the soap as Roxanne. The former star of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was last seen on the soap as a date to Devon Hamilton’senrique_sm.jpg character.

Patrick Duffy Returns to The Bold & the Beautiful

Monday, November 5th, 2007

patrick duffy_1.jpgThis week Patrick Duffy will be returning to The Bold & the Beautiful as Stephen Logan. The former Dallas star plays the patriach of the Logan clan. Duffy made his debut last year on the soap. With Stephanie’s recent involvement in Brooke’s rape, look for Stephen to seek revenge on Queen Stephanie. The return of Stephen Logan will add fuel to the Forrester/Logan feud. There is no word on how long Duffy’s stint on The Bold & the Beautiful will be this time around.

The Introduction

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

I will use this first blog entry as an introdution of the topics I will be writing about. Mostly I will be discussing CBS soap operas. I will write about The Young & the Restless, The Bold & the Beautiful, and Guiding Light. Sorry, I don’t watch As the World Turns. I hope you all enjoy my views on these long running soap operas.

Inturn: Lauretta Vaughn

Friday, August 10th, 2007

I have to say that I think Lauretta Vaughn is the best actress in the group of Inturns competing for a role on ATWT. She plays Kit comfortably and realistic, more convincing even than the Silas or Ava characters in my opinion. It is usually very clear by the quality of acting, who is an inturn and who is not. However, in Lauretta’s case, I had to look up her character to know that she was in the competition. Way to go Lauretta, I’m pulling for you!

ATWT: Blossoming Relationships

Friday, August 10th, 2007

Today’s Episode of As The World Turns was tense for many reasons. Carly was discovered in the house with J.J. Silas tried to hold her and she urged J.J. to run. He did, only to return moments later with Ava who was pointing a gun at him. Silas called Kit to blow the whistle on Jack and the three of them were caught and tied up together. It’s such an ordeal, but I know how they are going to get out of it. I have to imagine that going through this together will bring Jack and Carly back together. I can’t see him going back to Katie after this is all over.
Luke and Noah have a close encounter when Noah slips at the farm and the two nearly embrace. There is tension between them then Maddie walks in. She doesn’t notice that anything at first, but Noah is quick to try and get out of there with her very soon. He takes her for ice cream and tries to convince her to stay in Oakdale for college so that they can be together. She is surprised by this because they haven’t been dating for long. Noah’s begs her to consider it and give them a chance. His motivation is written all over his face. He is obviously afraid of being gay, and is shaken by what happened at the farm with Luke, so he is clinging to his relationship with Maddie- his HETEROSEXUAL relationship that he is using to define himself now that he is afraid of his feelings. He is using her to hide and asking her to give up her dreams to stay behind so he can do that. (What a punk!)
Holden gives Lily one more chance, warning that she not be dishonest with him again.

ATWT: COLE is Cole Dumbrowski

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

That’s right readers! Remember last week when I mentioned Sofie’s boyfriend that I hated with the 1950s attitude? Well, it seems that Cole’s last name is Dumbrowski– a fact that the show hasn’t clued us in on yet. He is related to Iris in some way, and is probably her son and Gwen’s brother. That’s all Gwen needs in her life: another horrid family member. Oh, well, Chris Heuisler and his new character probably won’t be buzzing off anytime soon with a last name like that! At least not until he causes a fair amount of trouble!

As The World Turns: Jack Got A Tip, Off to Idaho

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

Today on As The World Turns, Jack (Michael Park) got a tip from a woman Katie met who knows Silas. She said that Silas and his wife have a place in Idaho. Jack plans to leave amidst protests that he isn’t well enough. He and his ex-wife Carly (Maura West) argue about it because she wants to go too. He asks her to stay and take care of Parker and Sage. I do wish all of the women telling him not to go would just shut up. It’s his son, no amount of broken ribs would stop me either, and you’d think they’d understand that and be supportive. Carly later tells Gwen that there’s something “not right” about all of this and she can’t put her finger on what.

Katie (Terri Colombino) is upset about finding Carly unbuttoning Jack’s shirt, so she turns to Brad for comfort.
I just don’t know what to make of the Brad situation. Why does Katie turn to him when she knows how he feels about her. It’s a love triangle that’s turned into a love….rectangle? And I want to believe that some couples on soaps can stay together. I know I’d start throwing things at the T.V. if anything ever happened to Will and Gwen. But with Carly and Jack, I’m not so sure they belong together. He seems to be a happier person with Katie, although their love doesn’t seem as strong. Carly just can’t keep her nose clean for 10 minutes and she hurts him over and over again. I got sick of seeing him treated like a punching bag when they were together. His “hot” factor has seemed to go up quite a few points since he left Carly, too. Maybe it’s because he’s not always under the pressure of having to fix everything all the time. Maybe it’s because we, as an audience, can see the happy side of him for a change. I don’t know, what do all of you think? Send me a comment and convince me they belong together.

Y&R: Closing Arguments

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

Michael and the D.A. gave their closing arguments today in the tense trial of Phyllis Newman. I think she’s gonna walk, because Michael’s great and the charges are kind of …well….stupid. Brad is so unreliable as a witness, or a person. And, by the way, does ANYONE find this guy sexy? I’d just like to know if you do cause I find him off putting and made of plastic. I think even Victor is sexier than Brad. Also, Brad actually did what Phyllis wanted him to do, because that’s what he wanted to do anyway? So, that’s not really extortion is it?
Lily and Cane leaned on each other a little to mend their broken hearts, joining together to delete their exs’ numbers from their phones.

GL: Coop KISSES Ashley!

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

He finally kissed Ashley. What a great moment. Ashley told Coop that she had a date with Stuart. Coope meets stuart and his hackles instantly go up. Then Coop confronts Stuart and scares him off. She’s really grateful that Coop ran him off and asks him to stay and hang out. They were getting close when Ava called with some story about needing him because she’s scared. He reluctantly agreed to go to her place, then turned to let Ashley know. She was like, “whatever- I need to cook muffins for tomorrow anyway.” She walked away then started crying. He came back and kissed her. It was so sweet and I’ve been hoping for that to happen. I think everybody has.

Olivia, meanwhile, is on the warpath. She sees two tickets to Hawaii for Jeffrey and Reva then tells Reva that she’d better break up with Jeffrey tonight, if she wants her secret kept. Jeffrey asks Reva to go with him to Hawaii and, desperate to keep Jonathan and Sarah’s safety secret, she tells him she needs a break.

As The World Turns: Jack Leaves Hospital

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

Dallas informs Jack, in his hospital bed, that an eyewitness saw a man and a woman pushing J.J. into a car and leaving the scene with him. Carly tells Jack that no one can solve the case like him and she helps him out of bed to get back to the station. He’s hurting physically and still really pissed off at Carly, but he goes back to the station and theorizes that one of J.J.’s kidnappers probably knew J.J.’s biological father Les. He tells Dallas to call the prison where Les did time and ask about friends he may have had on the inside.
Mady tries to convince Noah to talk his dad into let skip millitary service and go to Northwestern University next year, though he seems pretty convinced that his dad won’t go for it.
Aaron, meanwhile, overhears Sofie’s boyfriend bullying her like a 1950s husband. Like, “oh, no, you’re not. You are going to do exactly what I tell you to do, woman.” This guy has got to go, and it’s kinda obvious that Aaron likes Sofie.
Also, Holden finds out that Lily gave Carly the ransom money ($100,000.00) without telling him about it AND against Jack’s instructions. He is ticked at her to say the least, and basically tells her that he can’t trust her. Just as she’s running after him, Carly comes in with another “Oh, Lily, what am I gonna do???” sad face. Like Lily doesn’t have her own problems Carly. Man, it’s like Carly just brings hurt into everyone’s life. AAAAAAhhhhh. CARLY, GROW UP!
