Guiding Light
Josh is in his jail cell asleep as he dreams about a clock ticking.
The preacher comes in to see his cell mate but he mistakenly made it too late. The Reverend said that it must have been meant for him to talk to Josh. Josh tells him about the deal that the DA has offered and he was going to take it. Josh got an idea and asked the Reverend if he could contact the DA for him. Suddenly, Josh is waiting in the booking room and the DA has sent over the prosecuting attorney. Josh refuses to talk to him because he asked to speak to Doris. Finally Doris walks in. Josh tells her that he thought that she wasn’t going to get his message in time. Doris reminds Josh that she has excused herself from the case but she will listen for a minute. He had to hurry because she was late for a manicure.
At the farm, Cassie is vacuuming as she notices that there is a shirt that is stuffed under the chair of Josh’s. She shuts the vacuum off and stares at her engagement ring. RJ comes in and they talk about the two years that he will be gone. Suddenly there is a knock on the door. Cassie answered the door. It was Josh. He comes in and says “I love bail”. He tells Cassie that there is a guard posted out the door but he has a free evening and wondered what they would be doing for dinner. Josh lives the day like it was his last one. They play and laugh and have so much fun. Josh takes Cassie and RJ out for dinner. When they get back, he has a man to man talk with RJ and they put RJ to bed. Then he holds Cassie in his arms and they kiss, passionately. Josh takes Cassie to bed where they made love then fall to sleep. Josh wakes up early and starts his day because he goes to trial at 8:30 am. Josh is standing in the hall way as Billy and Reva come in. Billy pulls Josh over to the side as they discuss the shooting. Billy tries to convince Josh not to do this. Reva interrupts their conversation to let him know that Shane is on the phone. Josh can’t hear Shane so him and Reva go outside. He hangs up with Shane and turns to Reva. She asked him if he is sure this is what he wants to do. Josh tells Reva that he needs to do this. They hug each other and go back inside. Once in the courtroom, Josh hugs Cassie like it is her last. He turns to RJ and hugs him too. He then gets up and walks over and takes his seat beside of Jeffrey. The judge comes in and asked if Josh understands his rights and is prepared to accept the bargain of two years in a minimum security prison. Josh agreed that he understood. Suddenly there is an interruption when the court security delivers a message to the prosecuter. He then asked the court for a continuance but they are taking a break. They call a break. Doris, Jeffrey and Josh go into another room and they talk about the new evidence. Doris asked Josh to tell her again how he shot her husband. Josh tells her again. She tells them that he is lying. The report came back saying that Alan was shot 7 feet away. She tells Josh that now she has a new deal. She will give him 10 years. Josh is determined to accept the plea.
He goes outside to tell Cassie what he has decided to do. Cassie tries to get him to fight for himself. Josh tells her that if he doesn’t take ten years, he may get life. Cassie doesn’t agree with him, but she can’t stop him. He sits in the courtroom by himself contemplating his decision. Billy comes in for one last attempt to change Josh’s mind. He reminds Josh that HB would not give up on anything that he believed in. He would fight to prove his innocence and Josh comes from a long line of fighters. Cassie comes in and stands behind him. The court is back in session. The Judge asked him if he has accepted the new plea. Josh stands there for a moment. He gives the judge a long speech about how he is the one that comes from a long line of fighters. The Judge asked him if he has accepted this plea. Josh tells him that he could understand two years for an arguement that got out of hand but there is no way that he will take 10 years. Reva, Billy, Cassie and RJ cheer and clap as he tells the judge no deal. He goes home to start preparing for his trial. Everyone that was in the courtroom is there to eat pizza with him back at the farm. Josh puts RJ to bed and Reva tells Jeffrey that she has a plan. Jeffrey needs to call everyone to the stand to establish a reasonable doubt. Sounds like a good idea. When Josh comes in they eat pizza and start to have a little fun. But someone is watching them outside their kitchen window. Who could it be?
